TAIPEI - Two more mainland media agencies were allowed to send reporters to Taiwan, said the island's information office Tuesday.

They were Xiamen Star, a TV channel in Xiamen city of southeastern Fujian province, and Hunan TV based in central Hunan province, according to a press release from the office.

With this decision, the total number of mainland media agencies reporting in the island would increase to nine, from the current seven including five national media agencies and two local ones.

Taiwan authorities would continue promoting media exchanges across the Taiwan Strait, so as to improve mutual understanding and peaceful development, the statement said.
