The EU decision on committing 2,4 billion Euros the next three years (7,2 billion in total) to help poorer countries cope with global warming was good news for the COP15 negotiations in Copenhagen. At the daily press briefing in the Danish capital the EU negotiators said, that they hereby encourage other countries to contribute money. Especially the US government is expected to commit even more money or at least the same to the poor countries as part of a global climate treaty. The EU contribution is equal to the third of the total amount of the targeted money to address the immediate needs for the poor countries and to pay the way for a final agreement.
