KUNMING: Eleven miners were trapped underground early Monday after an outburst of coal and gas at a coal mine in southwest China's Yunnan province, local authorities said.
The miners were working in a shaft of Malishu Coal Mine in Shuangbai County, Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture when the accident happened at about 1:50 am, said the county government.
Rescuers rushed to the mine at 4:00 am. They were still searching for the miners.
Local work safety authorities are investigating the cause of the outburst.
