Heartless residents make way for robber's escape

A 50-something man chasing a robber on crowded streets in Changchun, Jilin province, would have caught the culprit had onlookers shown some courage and offered to help.

The robber, armed with a knife, had snatched a gold necklace from a woman on Sunday noon.

The man chased the robber on foot for more than a kilometer till they reached a dead end. Just then, one of the robber's accomplices came on a motorcycle and sped away with him right past the man.

"I was chasing the robber through crowded streets but no one helped," the furious man told police.
