An Urumqi company has found an economical way to make paper from stone.

Xinjiang Tanhong, a paper manufacturer, displayed a sample of the product on Monday in Urumqi, capital of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

The paper is made by crushing calcium carbonate and then adding resins and adhesives. The company plans to sell the product for 6,000 yuan ($876) per ton, 30 percent less than conventional paper. It estimates that each ton will save about 23 trees.
