Jinan lends a hand to rebuild quake-hit Sichuan

Jinan, capital city of Shandong province, received 807 students and 40 teachers from quake-hit Beichuan County of Sichuan province on June 5, where the students will continue their studies.

Zhang Suhua, director general of Jinan Civil Affairs Bureau said, "The city will receive 1,462 students and teachers from the Sichuan quake zone in two batches. We will do our utmost to give them a comfortable life here."

Their health will also be looked after. Jinan Bureau of Health deputy director general Ma Jiren said, "the children from disaster-hit region will receive free check-ups, and we will provide free medical treatment during their time in Jinan."

Since the 8.0-magnitude quake jolted Sichuan on May 12, Jinan has been doing all it can to help the province with relief efforts.

Ma said, "Up to now, seven medical teams with 86 members have assisted in the quake rescue work. The total value of medical materials is more than 7.3 million yuan. Jinan hospitals have treated 223 injured people who were accompanied by 214 family members."

Ma added each family was given a mobile phone with 300 yuan worth of calls and flowers presented to every patient.

According to statistics from the Jinan Civil Affairs Bureau, cash donations from the city has amounted to more than 22.5 million yuan. In addition, about 19.67 million yuan worth of relief materials like tents, waterproof cloths, medical supplies and food were sent to the quake-hit region.

Information from the Jinan Construction Committee showed that up until June 3, 1,566 sets of temporary shelters were produced. The city is responsible for producing and installing 7,000 temporary shelters exclusively for Leigu town in Beichuan county of Sichuan province.
