China's LCD TV output reached 6.34 million sets in the first half of 2007, up 65.4 percent on the previous year, statistics from China's Ministry of Information Industry (MII) show.

"The LCD TV has gained a bigger market share over the past two years. More and more people choose LCD TVs due to the price cut," an official with the MII said.

Comparing with the LCD TV, plasma TV's production costs remain high, but with its better color accuracy and motion tracking (little or no motion lag in fast moving images), it has great potential in the large screen flat-panel TV market, said the official.

According to statistics, output of plasma TV sets went down 28 percent to 235,000 in the first six months.

The rear-projection TV, however, is withdrawing from the market. The first half of this year witnessed a 90-percent-plus slump in the production of rear-projection TV, which was merely 47,000.

China produces more than half of the world's total color TV sets. Despite a slowdown since 2003, China's color TV production remains an annual growth at a double-digit rate.
