JAKARTA -- A woman and a toddler have died of bird flu in Indonesia recently, a health official said Tuesday, raising the death toll to 57 in the country.

A 35-year-old woman from the Jakarta suburb of Tangerang and a 2-year-old toddler from Karawang died when receiving intensive treatment at the Sulianti Saroso Hospital in Jakarta Monday.

They have been locally tested positive of bird flu, the Health Ministry's spokesperson Lily Sulistyowati was quoted by the country's leading news website Detikcom as saying.

Indonesia has confirmed 74 human bird flu cases since the first case was detected in July last year.
