CPC Encyclopedia | Updated: 2013-01-10 15:00

On Jan 10, 1949, the Huaihai Campaign ended its final phase, or the third phase, with the entire Du Yuming army groups from the KMT being wiped out.

The Huaihai Campaign (Nov 6, 1948-Jan 10, 1949) was the longest, biggest and bloodiest of the three national liberation wars and was divided into three phases.

The KMT threw 800,000 men into the campaign against 600,000 people from the PLA. It was the only one among the three battles the PLA force less than the KMT army.

The 66-day campaign killed 130,000 PLA men and 555,000 KTM soldiers. When the campaign ended, all of the KMT elite armies had been wiped out.
