Feb 17—19, 2001: The reform of rural taxes and administrative charges

From Feb 17 to Feb 19, 2001, a conference on the national experimental reform of rural taxes and administrative charges was held in Anhui province. The main task was to implement the spirit of the Central Committee and the State Council on promoting the reform of rural taxes and administrative charges, and to study and improve policies. Wen Jiabao delivered a speech and said that promoting the rural tax reform is major initiative to resolve issues on agriculture, rural development and the role farmers in the new stage of agricultural development. Wen said Party committees and government entities at all levels should fully understand this important and far-reaching reform from a global and strategic perspective.
