"But we also had companies sending their entire staff to the restaurant because they wanted to participate."

The Spanish food restaurant Migas in Sanlitun, meanwhile, held an art auction in late May to raise funds for the quake victims.

The event was organized by a social enterprise-Philanthropy in Motion-and was part of a larger fund-raising campaign called Nepal RISE, which appealed to the public to create Nepal-inspired artworks, and then sell them at various auctions.

Migas raised 8,000 yuan on the drinks alone sold during its event, and Philanthropy in Motion raised another 42,000 yuan from the auction organized in Migas and at another site.

"The restaurant was very involved with our campaign," said PIM founders Connie Leong and Jasmine Lau.

"They offered us the space for free and donated all their money from drinks. Some of its staff members also worked outside their normal hours to help us."
