Avaya Inc, a leader in the telephony field, has been transforming its focus to business collaboration "in response to the customer requirement that they want to improve the efficiency of their businesses," said Tom Mitchell, the company's senior vice president in Beijing on Tuesday.

"The transformation has been in place for a great deal of time and it is serving the market very well. We are trying to lead the requirements of the market, so we made 60 releases over the past 18 months," Mitchell said during an interview after the launching ceremony of its annual "Avaya Experience Tour".

"The transformation is not only in line with the customer requirement, but also follows the technology development trend," said John Wang, managing director of Avaya Greater China.

"China is a very critical market to us," Mitchell added. "It is growing faster than the rest of the company, so we are increasing our investment here and developing more products for this market."

In the past three years, in addition to covering big industries including finance, aviation, tourism, and hotels, Avaya has expanded from key cities to over 20 provinces and municipalities, Wang said.

As a global provider of business collaboration and communications solutions, Avaya announced on March 15 that it would acquire RADVISION Ltd, a leading provider of videoconferencing and telepresence technologies over IP and wireless networks, valuing at approximately $230 million.

Through this acquisition, Avaya will provide customers with a highly integrated and interoperable suite of cost-effective, easy to use, high-definition video collaboration products, with the ability to plug and play multiple mobile devices including the Apple iPad and Google Android.

The acquisition "expands the area of our market and enables us to provide multiple video solutions to customers," said Mitchell.

However, Avaya still faces the challenge of customer demand and technology development changing fast, Wang added.

The theme of this year's "Avaya Experience Tour" is "Accelerating the Speed of Business".
