BEIJING -- Chinese shares closed lower Thursday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.01 percent, or 28.31 points, to close at 2,765.89.

The Shenzhen Component Index fell 0.75 percent, or 92.58 points, to finish at 12,301.41.
