Macao's residential unit prices up 14.6% in Q1

MACAO -- The average transaction price of Macao's residential units increased by 14.6 percent quarter on quarter to 38,261 patacas ($4,782) per square meter of usable area in the first quarter of 2011, according to the figures released on Tuesday by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

The average transaction price of those in the Macao Peninsula and Coloane Island increased by 25.3 percent and 4.8 percent from the previous quarter to 37,159 patacas and 67,484 patacas per square meter respectively, while the average price of those in Taipa Island decreased by 16.2 percent to 33,402 patacas per square meter, according to the data.

Meanwhile, the average price of small residential units registered notable increase, with those having an area smaller than 50 square meters soaring by 51.3 percent quarter on quarter to 35,110 patacas per square meter, and the average price of those having 50 to 99.9 square meters increased by 33.8 percent to 40,225 patacas per square meter.

However, the figures also indicated that a total of 4,554 residential units were purchased and sold at 13.41 billion patacas in the first quarter of 2011, down by 10.4 percent and 16.2 percent respectively from the previous quarter.

In the first quarter of 2011, gross floor area of buildings completed totaled 163,989 square meters, altogether providing 567 units, according to the data.
