Macao's gaming revenues set monthly record

MACAO - The total revenues of Macao's gaming sector for February this year amounted to 19.86 billion patacas ($2.48 billion), rising by seven percent over the previous month, according to the figures released on Tuesday by the city's Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau.

It was the highest monthly revenues for the gaming sector in Macao so far, breaking the record revenue of 18.883 billion patacas made in last December.

The revenues for February 2011 increased by 47.7 percent over the same period of the previous year, the figures indicated.

As for the first two months of this year, the figures increased by 40 percent year-on-year to 38.4 billion patacas, according to the Bureau.

Being the only place in China where gambling is legal, there were 33 casinos with 4,791 gaming tables and 14,050 slot machines in Macao by the end of 2010, according to official figures.
