China's software export growth losing steam

China exported $1.98 billion worth of software during the first two months of 2009, a 34.7 percent increase over the same period from 2008, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said.

The ministry said on its website that the growth is 9.4 percentage points lower than that of the same period last year. Meanwhile, export of software outsourcing services increased by 53.4 percent to $220 million.

During the first two months, revenue of the country's software industry increased by 20.8 percent to 126.08 billion yuan, but that growth is also 7.9 percentage points lower year-on-year.

The ministry said software revenue in the west region of the country increased by 25.7 percent to 11.13 billion yuan during the first two months, 11.5 percentage points higher than the same period last year.
