China's mobile phone users hit 650 million

China had 649.7 million mobile phone subscribers by the end of January, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said on its website.

The country's three mobile phone carriers signed up 8.49 million new subscribers in January, an indication that the country's mobile subscription is maintaining a strong momentum.

In stark contrast, the number of fixed-line users stood at 339.8 million by the end of January, an increase of 1.02 million compared to the previous month, MIIT said.
