Reflecting poor current market conditions the Dow Chemical Company said it will eliminate 5,000 full-time jobs worldwide, 11 percent of the company's global workforce.

However, whether there will be some job cut in China is not clear yet, said a company source Tuesday.

Dow will also close 20 facilities in high-cost locations and divest several non-strategic businesses. In addition, the company will temporarily idle 180 plants and significantly reduce its contractor workforce worldwide by approximately 6,000 as predicated by reduced operations.
