Homemade LCD-TV market share falls to 45 %

In the second quarter this year, both sales revenue and volume of Chinese branded televisions using liquid crystal discharges (LCD) dropped to 45 percent of the market, released by the first half-year report of the China Video Industry Association.

According to Sino Market Research Ltd, Samsung and Philips have captured the second and the third positions in the LCD-TVs market. Overseas brands occupied the large-sized LCD-TV market via price competition and through multi-level marketing strategies, said Sheng Zhe, senior research manager of the Sino research company.

Attracted the foreign-funded LCD TV makers was the large potential market. In the first half this year, the total output of LCD-TVs surged 140 percent, and sold 3.34 million units, making up 18.7 percent of the color television market. Meanwhile, the proportion of LCD-TVs reached 54 percent in the color television market in terms of sales revenue.

By contrast, conventional televisions using cathode ray tube (CRT) declined significantly, down 7 percent in the market. Sheng predicted that the LCD-TV market share to surpass the CRT share ing the Chinese color TV market by 2010.
