Mechanical, electrical exports surge

China exported US$309.95 billion worth of mechanical and electrical products in the first half of this year, up 27.1 percent from the same period last year, according to the General Administration of Customs.

The figure accounted for 56.7 percent of China's total exports for the first half of this year, according to customs statistics.

Electric appliances and electronic products exports totaled US$128.7 billion in the first six months, up 29.6 percent year on year.

China's foreign trade volume for the first half of 2007 totaled US$980.93 billion, up 23.3 percent, with exports growing 27.6 percent to US$546.7 billion and imports up 18.2 percent to US$434.2 billion.

Customs figures showed that in June alone, export value grew 27.1 percent to US$103.27 billion while import value rose 14.2 percent to US$76.36 billion, recording a trade surplus at a new high of US$26.91 billion, up 85.5 percent on the same month last year.
