China Unicom end-May GSM mobile subscribers 111.44m

China Unicom Ltd said subscribers to its global system for mobile communications (GSM) service rose to 111.44 million at the end of May from 110.3 million in April.

The company said its post-paid GSM users rose by 3.087 million for the first five months of the year, with the number of prepaid users up by 2.477 million.

Subscribers to its code division multiple access (CDMA) service totaled 38.66 million, compared with 38.21 million at the end of April, the company said.

Its post-paid CDMA subscribers rose by 2.077 million in the five months to May, with prepaid users up by 88,000.

China Unicom, the country's second-largest wireless carrier after China Mobile, also has a listed arm in Shanghai, China United Telecommunications Corp Ltd.
