China Shenhua Energy Co, the nation's largest coal producer, said it will charge power generators five percent more for the fuel this year because of rising production costs.

The company will raise coal prices under long-term contracts by at least 15 yuan (US$2) per ton, Board Secretary Huang Qing said in a conference in Shanghai yesterday. Shenhua Energy, based in Beijing, supplies 75 percent of its output under long-term contracts last year, Chairman Chen Biting said in March.
