Japanese carmaker Suzuki put three new models on show at Auto China 2006 held in Beijing from November 19 to 27: the concept car Ionis, and the compact sport utility vehicles (SUVs) the Grand Vitara and the Jimny.

The Ionis was a fuel cell vehicle displayed at the 39th Tokyo Motor Show in 2005. It promotes revolutionary advanced technology-based concept of mini cars. The vehicle motion control technology and fuel cell technology maximize space inside the car, and its pedestrian detection system also adopts the latest technology.

The two compact SUVs are expected to be imported by Suzuki (China) Investment Co Ltd in 2007 for sale in China. One of the SUVs, the Grand Vitara, has a completely new exterior design, and boasts a newly developed central differential full-time four-wheel drive that emphasizes off-road performance. The model will be equipped with two options - a three-door version with a 1.6-liter VVT petrol engine and a five-door one with a 2.0-liter petrol engine.

The other SUV, the Jimny, adopts Suzuki's traditional yet solid ladder frame and is dent-resistant. It is equipped a 1.3-liter all-aluminum DOHC 16-valve VVT engine, which ensures smooth driving on and off the road.
