Shenzhen to boost logistics, finance sectorsBy Guang Cai (China Daily)Updated: 2006-11-08 09:43 SHENZHEN: The Shenzhen municipal government will give top priority to developing its modern logistics and finance sectors and building the industries into the city's pillar sectors in the following years. Great efforts will also be made to develop new and high-tech and advanced manufacturing industries. According to Xu Zongheng, mayor of Shenzhen, Shenzhen will beef up more investment for the two sectors. "The logistics and finance sectors will be able to play an even bigger role in Shenzhen's economic development in the future," said Xu. Xu said Shenzhen has great advantages to aid the development of the modern logistics and finance industries. Located in the coastal area of Guangdong Province, Shenzhen has a long coastline with the ability to construct deepwater ports and piers and develop its ocean transportation. Meanwhile, Shenzhen, bordering Hong Kong and neighbouring Macao, is looking to expand co-operation in developing its logistics and finance industries. The two Chinese special administrative regions, where transportation, finance, trade and service industries are well developed, have already become international trading hubs and financial centres in the Asia-Pacific region. Xu expects more foreign investors will be attracted to Shenzhen's economic construction and set up their companies and joint ventures in Shenzhen's logistics and finance industries in the years to come. "The room for foreign investment in Shenzhen is huge," said Xu. He expects foreign investors will reap huge profits if they set up their firms and subsidiaries in Shenzhen. "Shenzhen will launch regional and global co-operation in developing its
logistics and finance industries," Xu added.
