Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd, the host of the Chinaplas exhibition, hopes to build the annual event into a world-class pageant in the plastics industry. If achieved, this will mark another milestone in the extraordinary development of the well-known Hong Kong-based exhibition giant.

The 20th International Exhibition on Plastics and Rubber Industries, or Chinaplas 2006, known as one of the most influential international plastics and rubber exhibitions in Asia and the third largest of its kind in the world, is scheduled to take place from April 26 to 29 in Shanghai.

The first session of the exhibition was held in 1983.

"In the large-scale exhibition, exhibitors, visitors and professionals will have access to updated information about the know-how, new products and market trends," Stanley Chu, chairman of Adsale, creator and organizer of the expo, told China Daily in an exclusive interview.

Enterprise exhibitors can establish networks with many overseas and domestic plastics businesses and industry experts, so as to promote mutual exchange and co-operation and achieve win-win results.

"The time-tested annual event has been well received. It is really an international show which is expected to attract a huge number of exhibitors and audiences from both home and abroad," Chu added.

Statistics show that at last year's session, 65 to 70 per cent of the exhibitors were from abroad with the rest being joint ventures and private enterprises in China. And among the 52,000 visitors, overseas buyers took up more than 15 per cent  nearly 8,000 people.

The number of foreign buyers at this year's expo is expected to reach more than 20 per cent, or 10,000 people, Chu predicted.

According to the chairman, there are other highlights in the upcoming show, such as further internationalization, expanded scale and widespread promotion activities.

Chinaplas 2006 will have an exhibition area of 92,000 square metres, with 1,300 exhibitors displaying over 1,000 sets of machines, compared with only several thousand square metres in 1983, and 36,000, 40,000, 60,000 and 77,000 square metres respectively from the years of 2002 to 2005.

New conferences will be added to traditional activities this year. "Some high-level industrial conferences, such as the China, Japan and Republic of Korea Summit, will be launched during the event to enhance regional and international business ties and co-operation," Chu said.

"We will try to shape a prosperous future for both exhibitors and visitors - this is the theme of the 20th session."
Chinaplas is held in Shanghai in even years and rotates between Guangzhou and Beijing for the odd years.
