China calls for revitalizing old industrial bases by Xinhua Updated: 2006-03-12 09:18
Traditional industrial bases in Northeast China should step up efforts to
realize an all-round revival under the guidance of the scientific development
concept, Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's
Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said in Beijing Saturday.
Revitalizing the old industrial bases is a significant strategic decision
made by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in light of
the prospect of building a well-off society, Jia made the remark at a panel
discussion with deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) on the
sidelines of the ongoing annual session of the legislature.
To realize the goal, more efforts should be made in pushing forward the
stable construction of socialist new countryside, maintaining steady grain
production, and improving innovation capacity, Jia told the NPC deputies from
Jilin Province.
Jia, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC
Central Committee, also called for furthering the reform and opening-up drive,
and maintaining social stability and harmony that will in turn contribute to the
revival.
