Personnel shifts: Shanghai General Motors, GM China

Shanghai General Motors

Shanghai General Motors Co - the joint venture between GM and SAIC - announced on Aug 13 that Wang Xiaoqiu will take the reins as general manager. Wang, 49, was formerly general manager of Shanghai Diesel Engine Co, a subsidiary of SAIC Group. Former general manager of Shanghai GM Ye Yongming will reportedly leave the auto industry for a post as the chairman of the State-owned Bailian Group Co in Shanghai. According to the Forbes ranking in 2012, Bailian topped the latest survey of China's 100 top chain stores published annually by the China Chain Store and Franchise Association. Ye has been general manager of Shanghai GM for two and half years.

General Motors China

According to a statement released by General Motors on Aug 13, it is strengthening its international operations management team in order to build on the company's leading position in China, the world's largest vehicle market. Tim Lee will become chairman of GM China and oversee 12 joint ventures, two wholly owned enterprises and more than 55,000 employees. Lee has spent nearly four years as head of GM International Operations. He will continue in his role as executive vice-president for global manufacturing. Bob Socia, president of GM China, will continue to report to Lee. Stefan Jacoby, most recently the CEO of Volvo Cars, will become GM's executive vice-president for consolidated international operations, leading the company's operations in more than 100 countries and regions in Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, Europe and the Middle East.
