The Meijiang International Convention & Exhibition Center, the main venue for the Tianjin 2010 Summer Davos Forum, is racing against time to finish construction before the event.

So far, the interior and supporting roads, pipe networks and landscaping have been completed. The Forum starts on Sept 13.

André Schneider, managing director of the World Economic Forum, led a panel to Tianjin recently for the third-round inspection of the municipality's preparations for the 2010 Summer Davos Forum.

He and his team canvassed electric power, communications, the establishment of the New Champions Village, and firefighting in the Tianjin Meijiang International Convention & Exhibition Centre, as well as the organization of volunteers, media publicity, transport control and security.

The new convention center is the largest in Tianjin, with a land area of 356,200 square meters and floor area of 100,000 square meters. The center consists of four indoor exhibition halls with an area of 60,000 square meters.

Energy efficiency and low carbon were considered during construction. The indoor water-efficient plumbing and water-saving irrigation for outdoor landscaping are supported by recycling water from a rainwater collection and treatment system.

The inspection panel also reviewed the preparations for accommodations, cultural tours, industrial tours, and a banquet.
