Liaoning's retail sales up 17%

Northeast China's Liaoning province reported 193.6 billion yuan in retail sales in the first quarter of this year, a 17-percent year-on-year rise, according to the provincial bureau of statistics.

The total included 179.95 billion yuan in urban areas, up 17.2 percent year-on-year, and 13.66 billion yuan in rural areas, up 14.9 percent.

Sales of gold and silver jewelry went up 65.6 percent year-on-year, building materials sales up 56.9 percent, furniture sales up 50.5 percent, and sales of petroleum and oil products up 45.3 percent.
