In 2006, coal production was 72 percent more than in 2002 and power generation that year was 73.3 percent more than in 2002. Petroleum production increased by 10.6 percent from 2002 to 2006.

Backed by the infrastructure investment, a comprehensive nationwide transport network has come into being, the report said.

From 2003 to 2006, for example, the mileage of expressways increased by 80.5 percent.

The telecom and postal networks have also developed fast during the 2003-06 period, the report said.

China has the largest telecom network and the most subscribers in the world. From 2002 to 2006, the number of fixed-line users increased by 71.7 percent while that of mobile service users increased by 1.2 times.

The number of Internet users in 2006 was 2.3 times that in 2002.

The business value of the traditionally inefficient postal services increased by 1.7 times in 2006 from 2002, the report said.

Public facilities, such as water and gas supply facilities, have also seen dramatic growth during that period, the NBS said in the report.
