China is willing to steadily push forward cooperation with Turkey on important projects under the framework of building the Belt and Road, President Xi Jinping said on Saturday while talking with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Noting that China-Turkey cooperation has developed rapidly in all areas in recent years, Xi said that developing China-Turkey strategic cooperation is in accord with the fundamental interests of the two countries and the people of both sides.

The two sides should respect each other's core concerns and deepen cooperation in fighting terrorists and security, Xi said, adding that the two countries should connect their development strategies under the principle of equality, mutual benefit and win-win.

Xi said that China highly appreciates Turkey's support and participation in building the Belt and Road.

Xi pointed out that a peaceful and stable Middle East is in accord with the common interests of the international community, and China would like to enhance communication with all relevant parties for the peace and stability of the Middle East.

Erdogan agreed with what Xi said about Turkey-China relations. Turkey upholds a positive attitude toward implementing the consensus of the leaders and pushing forward practical cooperation, he said.

It's very important that China holds the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, Erdogan said, adding that Turkey is willing to enhance cooperation with China in investment, transportation and infrastructure construction.

The two presidents witnessed the signing of cooperative documents in judicial, transportation and culture areas after their talks.
