“I have been suffering from rheumatism for more than 20 years. Thanks to the community eldercare center, I can receive treatment near my home,” an elderly man, living in Anxiang North community in Chaoyang district, Beijing, said on Dec 1.
The 200-square-meter eldercare center, located in Anxiang North Community, has served 420 aged residents since its opening one month ago, according to Zhang Shuaiyi, director of CHJ-Care’s Community Eldercare Center Project.
“Set meals for 25 yuan and physiotherapy covered by health insurance are the two welcomed projects. Over 30 elders come for them per day,“ Zhang said.

Besides physiotherapy and meals, the center offers personal care including massage, bathing, rehabilitation exercise, companions for doctors' visits, and arrangements for special care. Customized door-to-door service is also provided to meet the needs of disabled elders.
A total of 100 such community eldercare centers have been set up in Chaoyang district this year to cover all the areas with concentrated aged populations.
In Shuangquan community smart home features such as Internet Plus and big data have been brought into senior care service. The eldercare center has collected health and contact information of elders in case of emergencies, and can help call 120 when residents press the emergency button.
The sub-district government office provided a rent-free building for the center as part of a pilot cooperative program.
