Dong Feng came to Beijing from Heilongjiang province 12 years ago and now rents a single-bedroom flat in Beijing. The rent is more than 4,000 yuan each month ($600).

Dong and his wife opened a trade company in Beijing that deals with specialties from northeast China. Last year, Dong started working in the Designated Driving service.

Dong's son is in the first grade of primary school in Beijing. The boy is the pride of the family, he said.
