The Beijing Tourism Bureau and the Pinggu government have issued guidelines for the congress.

The theme for the congress will be "Leisure improves life quality". Apart from the congress meeting, a series of leisure-related events will be held, including an international jogging competition, a Chinese traditional medicine and cultural festival, and a Beijing international pop music festival.

The world leisure industry exhibition will also invite participants from China and abroad to showcase leading leisure industry products.

The hosting agreement having been signed, an executive committee, an operation committee and a project committee will now be established.

Market promotion and project preparations are underway. Preliminary work will be conducted until June next year.

Construction of the main venue and four parallel session venues will be finished by March 2020, and the Congress itself will be held from April to September next year.

The event is expected to attract 5 to 8 million visitors to Pinggu, bringing tourism revenue of 10 billion yuan.

Founded in 1952, the World Leisure Organization is an international, non-profit, non-governmental association that fosters leisure as a force for human growth, development, and well-being.

The World Leisure Congress has been held every two years in different cities since 1988.
