Beijing's Shunyi district has vowed to upgrade its economic structure so that the service sector will generate 60 percent of its GDP and provide 65 percent of its public budget within two years.
A promotional event for Beijing's pilot demonstration area in the service sector was held in Shunyi district on July 22.
Local government has issued 38 pilot goals to ensure upgrading of economic structures in Shunyi. Twenty are expected to be reached by the end of this year and 18 will be achieved in 2017.
Shunyi, with an annual output value of 281.3 billion yuan ($42.19 billion), is one of the major industrial bases in Beijing, ranking first among all the city’s districts over the past five years.
The annual output from the service sector reached 144.1 billion yuan ($21.61 billion) last year. It accounted for 58.4 percent of Shunyi’s GDP, higher than that of the industry sector.
Relying on its proximity to the Beijing Capital International Airport, the district has centered industrial clusters around it in recent years, including aviation, logistics, exhibition and high-tech manufacturing industries.
Transformation of the service sector would be a significant step in meeting Beijing’s development strategy and increasing the export-oriented economy and high-end foreign-related services of the Tianzhu Free Trade Zone, the first airport-based comprehensive bonded area in China.
Focused on the Tianzhu Free Trade Zone, the airport economic core zone, Zhongguancun Shunyi science park, and now on the service sector, Shunyi has determined to support its airport economy and new energy vehicle industry and enhanced services for information, cultural innovation, technology trade and business exhibition.
