The second honey peach picking festival and the launch ceremony of Wuxi pavilion of Chinese specialties JD.com online store were held on June 8 in Yangshan town, Wuxi, Jiangsu province, Wuxi Daily reported.

JD.com or Jingdong Mall, headquartered in Beijing, is one of China's largest e-commerce companies. The official online store marks the establishment of a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Wuxi and JD.com to promote and sell regional agriculture products via the Internet.

Officials from the commerce bureau said that the cooperation with JD.com helps to implement the government’s "Internet Plus" action plan and improve the supply chain system of the regional trademark of agricultural products, as well as provide efficient and convenient online channels for both sellers and buyers.

Yangshan, a small town on the outskirts of Wuxi, has a history of peach planting which dates back almost 100 years. The volcanic soil found in the area provides a fertile environment for the growing of fruit, especially peaches. Its peach has been praised as "the queen among fruits", and was reported by the Wall Street Journal as the "best peach on earth" in 2009 and enjoys enormous popularity throughout the world due to its high quality and unique flavor. Yangshan has been selected as one of the provincial rural e-commerce pilot towns to boost product sales by developing e-commerce and encouraging farmers to open online stores.
