Children’s drama Yuanzaiyuanniu to debut in Beijing next month

A children’s drama, Yuanzaiyuanniu, will be staged in the National Centre for the Performing Arts on July 4-5 in Beijing, according to a press conference held May 31.

The drama was co-developed by the China Zhongshan Culture Exchange Association (CZEA), Beijing BG Culture & Sports Co., Ltd. (BGCS) and the Beijing Theatre for Children. Its protagonists are modeled on three pandas, Tuan Tuan, Yuan Yuan and their child Yuan Zai, which were given to Taiwan by the Chinese mainland in December 2008.

The drama aims to become a brand for China’s cultural industry and drive its development, in turn boosting the country’s industrial structure.

“We hope the drama can be a medium to promote emotional bonding among youth and increase cross-Strait cultural exchange and cooperation,” says Zheng Jianbang, vice director of CZEA and vice chairman of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang.

Yuanzaiyuanniu contains elements of both the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, which should help cross-Strait youth to know each other better.

According to BGCS’s Vice-president and General Manager Hou Zibo, the drama is just a part of the Yuanzaiyuanniu project; related cartoons, mobile games, films and theme parks will be launched soon.
