A virtual reality research institute will be built to bond fundamental and technological research with China’s economic construction and social development.

A framework agreement for establishing the Beijing Virtual Reality Industry Research Institutute was signed by Beihang University’s national key laboratory and Zhongguancun Shunyi Science Park on April 29.

The institute will focus on data acquisition and modeling facilities, featured industrial analogous instruments, virtual reality and augmented reality human-computer interactive devices, and virtual reality and augmented reality application systems.

To build a leading virtual reality technology transfer platform, the research institute will cooperate with enterprises and R&D organizations in the aerospace, equipment manufacturing, medicare, education, culture and smart city fields.

Specifically, the institute will conduct R&D and industrialization on oral cavity operation simulators, laparoscope minimally invasive surgery simulators, cardiovascular surgery simulators, full-mission flight simulators, and virtual reality video surveillance systems.

With high-quality intellectual resources converging into the institute, more hi-tech enterprises in the virtual reality industry are expected to be brought in and developed.

Beihang University’s virtual reality national key laboratory specializes in fundamental research and innovative talents cultivation. To meet the strategic requirements of China’s economic and social development, the laboratory continuously practices theoretical and technological innovation, and has developed several virtual reality hardware and software platforms.
