The award ceremony of the Innovation Competition of loT Intelligence Sensing kicked off in Beijing on April 11. The competition is intended to drive industrialization of universities and research institutions’ innovative achievements and cultivate leaders in science and technology against a background of mass innovation and entrepreneurship.

As the Beijing municipal government emphasizes the development of loT industry, several applications in key fields have been implemented and a group of outstanding Internet enterprises and industrial leading talents identified which has built a sound foundation of loT and created a high-tech industry system. The development of loT industry is not only a key way to integrate information and industrialization or information and urban development, but also the core foundation of building a smart city.

Since last September, the competition has attracted 1,298 teams and collected 677 submissions. Seventy percent of the participants, with an average age of 23.5, are university or college students across the country. Up to now, more than 4,000 users have registered on the competition’s official website and more than 200 cities have taken part.

After three rounds of careful evaluation by an expert panel, 43 works stood out. One gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze project awards were given. In addition, 34 individuals were separately awarded. The winning submissions were from fields close to people’s lives, such as smart transportation, environmental protection, public security, intelligent households, health care, and food tracing, and represent the leading level of new design and apps in the loT industry.

In the past year, some winning projects attracted investors due to the promotional value of the competition’s platform. For example, the gold award winner, a non-wound physiological indications monitor, is estimated to go on sale in 2017.

The winning works will be displayed in the upcoming 19th China Beijing International High-tech Expo, which will be held from May 19 to 22. The 3rd Innovation Competition of loT Intelligence Sensing plans to kick off during the expo.

The competition is hosted by the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology and undertakenby the Beijing Computing Center, under the guidance of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology and other organizations.
