The China-UK Literary Theatre Exchange, part of the 2015 UK - China Year of Cultural Exchange and jointly organized by Xinchan Theater in Beijing and the British Council, will open on March 27. Under this project, 7 works, including Ulysses, A Journey round James Joyce and Turn of the Screw will be staged in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Jinan, bringing a feast of literature and theatre by Sino-British artists.

James Joyce’ masterpiece Ulysses is one of the greatest novels of the 20th century. Adapted for stage and performed by Tron Theatre, it conveys the spirit of the original with a remarkable lightness of touch.

Four new works of Yi Liming, the Chinese national first rank stage art designer and theatre director of Beijing People’s Art Theatre, will also be staged. Two of them are historical Chinese plays and one is an homage to Beckett's Waiting for Godot. Yi will also stage Turn of the Screw which is one of the most tautly constructed and tightly-knit of all Britten’s operas.
