Beijing's Economic and Technological Development Area, or E-town, recently announced that it has 10 projects for 2015 that include full 4G coverage and electronic screen displaying for public service at major sites such as its parks, with the focus on people's livelihoods. In explaining the work, Liang Shengzeng, head of zone management, told an annual meeting at the beginning of this year, that the zone is looking to transform itself, with priority placed on public work, and that the projects are a testament to their commitment.
The management office has used websites and newspapers to get people's opinions and suggestions on 23 key areas of improvement, and got the final 10 out of 197 received, with six of them expected to make things easier for business development and people's life, two for culture, education, and hygiene, and two for convenience in travel.
Currently the zone has 150,000 people so it will focus on public needs, communication infrastructure, commercial distribution, public service information, cultural life of the elderly, environmental quality, and people's sense of happiness. Its preliminary moves are to develop shopping and supermarket services within a 10-minute drive of the center and to improve commercial services this year, with a complex in the Hexi district and a belt project along the Liangshui River, and a top commercial complex in the Ludong district. It also wants to make a better layout for public service facilities and to bring in better quality agricultural and special goods suppliers and catering services for local enterprises and residential areas, with a commercial complex that is no more than a 15-minute walk from every corner of the zone.
Attention will also be given to culture, education and health and a Boda hospital and park renovation will increase the zone's soft power. The park will provide diverse cultural and sports services for employees and eesidents, and improve public service system and the hospital is expected to be completed this year, while work on the Tongren Hospital is going smoothly. As the number of residents increases it will put pressure on the local traffic, so, the zone will open four public transportation routes, increase transportation capacity, and increase the frequency of bus service during peak hours to create a good public transport environment for employees and residents.
