As a fast growing district in the capital city, Chaoyang is shaping up to be a business center with desirable investment environment and strength in economic growth.

The district sharpened its competitiveness in international business, global exchanges and regional cooperation and boosted its economic growth by improving the development of its consumption market and service industry.

It echoed President Xi Jinping’s emphasis on the need to free Beijing from some functions that have little to do with being the capital, and the need to coordinate the development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province as a greater region.

The retail sales of consumer goods in Chaoyang district reached 207.98 billion yuan ($33.9 billion) in 2014, with a year-on-year increase of 6 percent. The amount accounted for 22.9 percent of the capital’s total. Chaoyang district continues to lead among all districts and counties in Beijing.

☆ Creating a fashion consumption atmosphere in the district

The district holds large consumption promotion activities such as shopping and gourmet festivals every year. It encourages key enterprises in the district to innovate the business model, marketing channels, technology and applications to promote tourism, shopping, conference and exhibition, cultural consumption and recreational activities.

Meanwhile, Chaoyang uses media platforms, including mobile news service, travel portals and microblogs, to advertise promotion activities to further stimulate consumption.

One of these activities, the Chaoyang Fashion Shopping Festival, has been held for six years since 2009. Last year, the festival kicked off in the Aegean Shopping Mall with shopping malls and enterprises, including Galleria Mall, Huamao Center, Beichen Shopping Center and Solana Mall.

Such festivals not only enrich market supply but also boost consumption in the district.

Another consumption festival brand, the Chaoyang International Gourmet Festival, has become an annual catering fest in the city, attracting many skilled cooks and diners and serving as an influential exchange event in the catering industry in Beijing.

In 2014, the festival also became a highlight among a larger number of participants than previous years with parties and galas.
