Zhongguancun patent applications surge

From January to November 2014, enterprises in Zhongguancun Science Park applied for 36,514 patents, with a year-on-year growth of 14.1 percent, accounting for 30.7 percent of total applications in Beijing. Nearly 60 percent of them were patents of invention, bringing the total number to 21,749 with a year-on-year growth of 16 percent.

Six leading enterprises in Zhongguancun including Lenovo, BOE, Beiqi Foton, Qihoo, Xiaomi and Baidu applied for over 1,000 patents respectively.

Among the patents, 20,640 were approved, with a year-on-year growth of 6.2 percent, accounting for 31.2 percent of Beijing's overall figure. To the end of November, Zhongguancun enterprises possessed 34,801 invention patents, accounting for 65.4 percent of the city's total.
