The Overseas Students Pioneer Park, founded in 1989, has grown into an incubation center for science and technology enterprises in Beijing's Zhongguancun, Science and Technology Daily reported on Monday.

The park has seized the opportunities of the market economy transformation and made remarkable achievements, by virtue of its advantages in S&T resources and innovation personnel.

Founded in 1989, the Haidian Entrepreneurship Park has grown into a well-equipped industrial park that is home to Zhongguancun Chuangye Tower, Zhongguancun Development Building, clusters for the biomedical industry and a group of standard factory buildings.

It has the most listed enterprises among all the incubators across the country, such as Origin Agritech Limited, China's leading agricultural biotechnology company, and Northland Biotech Co, a Beijing-based biological engineering enterprise.

There are a number of renowned entrepreneurs in the park, including Han Gengchen, chairman of Origin Agritech Limited;Yan Wangjia, CEO of Beijing Venustech Inc, a provider of network security solutions that is listed on the Shenzhen stock market for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Early this year, the park released a strategic plan for developing a world-class incubator and an ideal place for professionals from different industries to start their business.

The park welcomed its newest member — Chuangke Headquarters on Dec 22, 2013,which aims to provide professional services for mobile Internet start-ups and entrepreneurial teams, and help them improve their abilities.

This new comer, which specializes in the full-chain services and aims at creating innovation and wealth for mobile Internet businesses and entrepreneurs, got its first group of projects approved on that day.

By May 30 this year, Chuangke had received 103 applications for incubation projects, and 50 of them have been approved.

The park has incubated more than 800 start-ups. About 90 percent of these projects came from returned overseas students. Half of them hold a doctor's degree. Among the entries of "Recruitment Program of Global Experts", or 1000 Talent Plan, 24 people were selected from the park, accounting for 25 percent of the city's total.

The park has obtained 2.13 billion yuan ($343.5 million) in equity investment, 310 million yuan for all kinds of bonds for financing and 380 million yuan subsidy from government.

In order to meet the demand for incubation innovation and more overseas students returning to China, the park called for a market-oriented development strategy, hoping to seek more international business opportunities and maintain its leading role in incubation with the help of innovation in service and organizational mechanisms, in March this year.

It will also try to introduce more professionals and promising projects by offering more investments and services, such as financing and tailored incubators, to foster strategic emerging industries.
