There is only one day left before the opening ceremony of the fourth Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), which is scheduled to begin at the National Center for the Performing Arts on April 16, Beijing Daily reported on Tuesday.

John Woo, chairman of the international jury for the Tiantan Award; US director Oliver Stone; Gravity director Alfonso Cuaron; renowned French director Jean-Jacques Annaud; Chinese director Zhang Yimou; and actress Zhang Ziyi will walk the red carpet.

The event contains seven themed activities, including the Tiantan Award Competition, opening ceremony, Beijing Film Panorama, Film Magic - Beijing Forum, Beijing Film Market, the Best in Wo• Film Carnival, and closing & awards ceremony.

To date, 837 films from 88 countries have registered to compete for the Tiantan Award. Fifteen of them have entered the shortlist, including The Grandmaster, American Dreams in China, Ilo Ilo and Hope.

“The fourth BJIFF continuously makes improvements in quality and professional level. It is expected that over 800 Chinese and international film organizations and 3,000 guests will attend the event. More than 110 activities will be held, attracting over 1 million visitors,” said Zhao Zhiyong, deputy secretary-general of the BJIFF organizing committee.
