Beijing's Huairou district will carry out a group of renovation projects in Yanqi, where the 2014 APEC meeting will be held, in order to improve its services, Beijing Daily reported on Thursday.
Yanqi town's Sleepless Valley, which includes five villages in the area, will make unified standards of clothing, bedding, food and decorations. It will also set up folk tourism cooperatives to help implement standardized methods of advertising, training and pricing, in order to help promote its tourism.
Another scenic spot in Huairou – Shentang Valley – will be renovated into a 3A-class scenic area. A 2 meter-wide and 8,240 meter-long walkway starting from Sleepless Valley to Shentang Valley will begin construction soon. It is expected to be completed by the end of June.

Meanwhile, Fan'gezhuang Village plans to renovate its backbone road into a commercial street with a man-made river running beside it. The street will be 1,000m long with more than 200 stores, selling food specialties and handicrafts from all parts of the country. The original courtyards and houses will be designed and constructed to one standard. This project is nearly completed and will be open to the public in July.
The village also plans to turn its hutongs into popular shopping destinations with nonlocal characteristics, such as a section of miscellaneous goods from Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang province and a commercial strip of handicrafts from Xinjiang, showcasing different cultures across the country.
