The Dagong village garbage incineration project - the largest garbage incinerator in north Beijing - is expected to be finished and put into use in 2014.
Wang Weiping, a member of the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress and senior engineer at the Beijing Urban Administration Commission, said that the pollution from a garbage landfill is nearly 20 times that of a garbage incineration plant.
"The supervision on garbage equipment, including collection stations and transfer stations, needs to be intensified," said Wang. "Though we have world-class equipment, poor management will still cause secondary pollution. Incinerators must be installed with gas purifying devices and activated carbon and must be under strict management," he added.
The Dagong village garbage incineration project - the largest garbage incinerator in Haidian district - is inviting bids for equipment adjustment. It is expected to be finished and put into use in 2014.
The incinerator will have a daily treatment capacity of about 1,600 tons, comparable to Phase 1 of the Gaoan garbage incineration plant in eastern Beijing.
