Thangka artist Niangben has just completed his one-week exhibition in Beijing, a warm up for his solo show at the National Museum of China next year.
One of the top thangka painters in China, the 42-year-old artist is also the inheritor of this National Intangible Culture Heritage. He started learning thangka when he was 12 years old from a master named Xiawu Cairang. His thangka is vibrant in color with extremely detailed strokes. The facial expression of the Buddha he paints is very vivid. Thangka is a traditional Tibetan scroll painting, focusing on themes of Buddhist life, deities and scenes.
