An opening ceremony for a tourism festival, which has been held annually in autumn for 11 years, was held in Beijing’s Daxing district on Sept 8.

This year’s festival welcomed Xing Aowei, Zhang Xiangxiang and Qian Hong, three Chinese Olympic champions, as promotion ambassadors for both the tourism of Daxing and National Fitness Day. The ambassadors encouraged people to choose low-carbon means of transportation, especially hiking and cycling, during the ceremony.

They started the promotion tour with more than 600 sport fans, hiking or cycling on the planned routes along the Yongding River. The participants could appreciate the beautiful landscapes, including Beijing’s biggest country park Nanhaizi and the new Riverside Forest Park in Daxing.

A variety of activities at the festival, such as the national Best Pear Competition, selection of the top 10 orchards and fruit-picking parties, will provide people in Beijing with an opportunity to get close to nature during the harvest season.
