Beijing began a special month-long campaign on kitchen waste, on June 19, guided by the municipal administration and law enforcement bureau, which is looking for any illegal behavior related to kitchen waste.
Enforcement officers in the capital did a random inspection of restaurants on Guijie, capital popular spot, that first morning, chosing Hua’s to begin with, checking its agreement with a garbage collection company and its kitchen waste sorting.
One administration official commented,“There are many tough issues with kitchen waste, including environmental problems, transportation it, and food safety risks, especially with illegal disposal methods.” This law enforcement approach will look for violations in the waste collection and disposal process.
“Any garbage truck without a cover will be fined, and if it scatters garbage all over or even alters its route it will be punished,” explained Yan Jianheng, an urban administration officer. Yan gave one example, of a case where a garbage truck dumped some kitchen waste right on 2nd Ring Rd then raced off, but ultimately got a ticket and a fine of as much as 20,000 yuan ($3,300), the maximum.
